LX3EQ is the emitter of the Banner LX series light curtain, with a 67 mm light screen for part sensing. Infrared LEDs are spaced at 9.5 mm and fire in sequence, so together with an LX receiver of the same length they form a crosshatched beam pattern that also detects thin and narrow objects. No synchronisation wire is needed between emitter and receiver.

The light curtain is used for part ejection verification and package detection on conveyors, where the object may cross the beam field at any point. The range is selected with the grey wire: 5...30 V DC gives Normal, 0...2 V DC gives Reduced range, and the emitter LED indicators show the selection. The green LED is on when power is applied and the emitter is good; the red LED is on in reduced range. The emitter must be paired with an LX receiver of the same length and range, and the device is not intended for personnel protection.

Photodiodes are spaced at 9.5 mm and recognise each emitter pulse separately, so the crosshatched beam pattern also detects thin objects such as a sheet of paper. In the standard range the smallest detectable object is 9.5 mm in diameter.
