Baumer EN380 — Incremental encoders

Precise Position and Speed Control in Environments with Strong Magnetic Fields

Baumer EN380 is a new generation incremental encoder with optical sensing that delivers stable performance even in direct proximity to electric motors, frequency converters, and other strong magnetic field sources — where magnetic encoders lose accuracy.

Optical technology ensures high signal quality with low jitter and latency — essential for axis synchronization and dynamic motion where every pulse counts.

EN380 — Technical Highlights

Precise positioning

  • High accuracy up to ±0.025°
  • Optical sensing method
  • Resolution up to 5,000 pulses per revolution (ppr)
  • Low jitter and latency for precise axis synchronization
Robust design

  • Shock resistance up to 100 g
  • Maximum resistance against magnetic fields
  • Protection class up to IP65, operating temperature from -25 °C to +85 °C
Compact integration

  • Compact housing — ø30 mm or ø40 mm
  • Minimum flange diameter 30 mm
  • Low weight for dynamic motion
Always the right choice

  • Solid shaft and hollow bore versions (blind and through)
  • Output signals HTL or TTL
  • Custom resolutions up to 65,536 ppr (on request)

Applications

EN380 Series Available in Three Configurations

EN380.IL-S— Solid Shaft (Housing ø30 mm)

The most compact variant with a ø30 mm housing and minimum flange diameter of 30 mm.

  • Shaft diameter ø5 mm or ø6 mm (length 12 mm)
  • Resolution from 100 to 1,024 ppr
  • HTL (8...30 VDC) or TTL (5 VDC) signals
  • 1 m cable
  • Connects to the drive shaft via coupling

Suitable for machines with limited mounting space where the smallest possible encoder size is required.

EN380.IL-B— Blind Hollow Shaft (Housing ø40 mm)

Encoder with a ø40 mm housing that mounts directly onto the shaft end. No separate coupling needed — simpler installation and fewer components.

  • Bore diameter ø6 mm or ø12 mm
  • Resolution from 250 to 2,000 ppr
  • HTL (8...30 VDC) or TTL (5 VDC) signals
  • Stator coupling (ø45 mm) or torque pin (3 mm)
  • 1 m or 2 m cable

Suitable when a direct connection to the shaft is preferred, reducing mechanical complexity and installation time.

EN380.IL-T— Through Hollow Shaft (Housing ø40 mm

The shaft passes through the encoder housing.

  • Bore diameter ø6 mm
  • Resolution from 360 to 2,048 ppr
  • HTL (8...30 VDC) or TTL (5 VDC) signals
  • Stator coupling (ø45 mm) or torque pin (3 mm)
  • 1 m cable

Designed for applications where the shaft must not be interrupted or where mounting on a long continuous shaft is required.
