Banner VIBE-IQ Vibration Monitoring

Self-learning vibration monitoring for motors, pumps and gearboxes - how it works and which setup to choose

Normal vibration for one motor can mean imminent bearing failure on another. VIBE-IQ sets the baseline and thresholds for each motor on its own - no vibration specialist required.

3 axes

thresholds set per axis

6-5300 Hz

frequency range

24 h

recommended learning time

The problem

A bearing wears for weeks, but the machine stops suddenly

Vibration rises gradually, but nobody sees it until the conveyor stops and the spare part is not in stock.

 No clear baseline

The same reading is normal for one motor and an alarm for another.

 Thresholds set manually

Each motor needs a specialist who analyzes the data and sets the thresholds.

 Repair after failure

A failed bearing also damages the shaft and housing, and downtime lasts until the parts arrive.

How it works

The sensor learns the motor's norm and follows changes

Detects if the motor is running

Only running data is used for the baseline and alarms. Idle time does not affect the result.

Learns the baseline

RMS velocity and high-frequency acceleration are measured on each axis. At least 24 hours of run time or one full process cycle is recommended, whichever is longer.

Sets thresholds for each motor

Each axis gets a baseline, a warning threshold and an alarm threshold that reflect the machine's load, speed and age.

Warns of changes

A sudden rise that persists over several consecutive readings, such as a motor jam, triggers an acute alarm. A slow rise in the multi-hour moving average, such as a wearing bearing, triggers a chronic alarm. The same sensor also warns of overheating.

Solutions

VIBE-IQ connection options

The right setup depends on where the warning needs to be seen, how many motors need monitoring and whether power is available at the machine.

Warning needed in PLC or SCADA system

QM30VT3

The sensor connects directly to the existing PLC, HMI or SCADA system. No controller needed. You can start with one sensor on the most critical motor.

Connection: Modbus RTU, RS-485

Housing: aluminium (IP67) or stainless steel (IP69K)

QM30VT3-MQP   QM30VT3-SS-MQP

Warning needed at the equipment

QM30VT3 + DXMR50 + SD50 + K50

The warning is shown right at the machine: the SD50 display shows values and a message, and the K50 indicator lights up in case of an alarm.

Logic block: DXMR50-LB-2M-PI

Sensor: QM30VT3-MQP

Display: SD50P300WSQP

Indicator: K50PSLRGB7Q

Cable: S15YB-M124-M124-0.2M

Output to PLC: 4-20 mA and discrete alarm signal

Multiple motors need to be monitored in one system

DXMR90-X1E + QM30VT3

The controller collects data from multiple sensors. Some sensors are connected by cable, while more distant ones are connected via R70 radio modules.

Controller: DXMR90-X1E

Radio: R70SR9MQ

Data: to PLC or cloud

There is no power at the device or it is hard to access

DXM1200-X2R2 + Q45

Battery-powered sensors for places where running power is difficult. Wired QM30VT3 sensors can join the same network.

Gateway: DXM1200-X2R2

Sensor with radio and battery: Q45VA3C

Radio with battery and sensor on cable: Q45VT3

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Imbalance and incompatibility, loose or worn parts, incorrectly installed components, overheating, and early signs of bearing damage.

As close to the bearing as possible, on the surface of the case. The tighter the mounting, the more accurate the data.
Yes, it is recommended to run a new baseline after major maintenance or equipment replacement.
Yes, but the sensor treats the motor's current condition as normal and only warns if it gets worse. A heavily worn motor should be repaired first, before the learning is started.
